James Weber Infinite Body 20 years

20 Years

On February 1, 1995, Infinite Body Piercing opened it’s doors for the first time. 20 years later, we’re still here, we are still in the same location on 4th Street, and we’re busier than ever!

Infinite was just an idea when the name was incorporated at the end of 1994. The current space was secured in January of the following year, and through the hard work of a small, dedicated group of people, Infinite was open for business on February 1st, 1995. The first studio wasn’t much like what it is now: it had only two piercing rooms, and the jewelry selection was limited to two jewelry cases. There was also a small selection of t-shirts, books, and magazines for sale: PFIQ, Body Art, Body Play, and Modern Primitives were the main tiles (along with Horny Biker Slut comics).

It goes without saying that body piercing was much different back then. Once a thoroughly underground practice, body piercing hit the mainstream only two years before, when Aerosmith’s video for “Cryin'” came out—where Alicia Silverstone’s character had her navel pierced—and started what many thought was just a silly trend. Twenty years later, that trend has outlasted a lot of changing fashion styles and become (almost) mainstream.

When we opened, we sought to be a safe and welcoming space for everyone, regardless of age, sexual orientation, gender or gender identity. (You can read the full story here.) We wanted to be more than just a retail space and piercing studio: we wanted to serve as a place where passionate body modification artists could come together and provide their best to our customers. And we’re still doing just that.

So thanks to all Infinite staff, past and present, and thanks to our customers; you have all helped make Infinite what it is today.
